TOPIC OUTLINE

The main topics covered will relate to Piles and Piling for Emirates Foundations and will include case examples leading to discussion with members attending

SPEAKER PROFILE

Gilbert Uson Sorinario will be the main presenter and discussion leader.  Gilbert is Technical Manager for Emirates German Foundations in UAE.  His career in rock, soils and piling started in the Philippines in 1990.  It has since encompassed work on the Malaysia – Singapore Second Expressway Crossing, Power Plant, Bridges, Jetties and High Rise Buildings.  He arrived in the UAE in 2006 and worked with Piling Tech LLC in Ajman prior to joining Emirates German Foundation a year ago.  As EGF Technical Manager his expertise encompasses planning and design of foundations, bored piles, secant piles, contiguous piles, sheet piles and anchor systems. In 2007, with the upturn of construction business in the UAE and with buildings going increasingly skywards and increasingly deep (basements) there was a critical demand for piling contractors. EGF aimed to satisfy that demand and has completed more than 40 assignments in the past year.

WATER – Water Leakage Losses in the Middle East/Gulf Area

Mark Jarrett – Manager, Georg Fischer Piping Systems, Dubai

 

TOPIC OUTLINE

Presentation paper will cover water loss in the Middle East/Gulf region, what governments are doing to try to address this problem and how modern plastic piping systems can be considered a cost effective solution to the region’s water crisis.

 

DEMONSTRATION

There will be a live demonstration following the presentions showing electrofusion welding and mechanical jointing for polyethylene and polybutylene piping materials

 

SPEAKER PROFILE

Mark Jarrett was born in Bedford, England in 1961.  He has worked in the gas and water industry for nearly 30 years with Georg Fischer Piping Systems.  Initially employed in the George Fischer foundry in Bedford in various positions related to manufacturing, product management and marketing of malleable iron fittings for gas and water distribution.

 

In 1996 he joined the headquarters of Georg Fischer in Switzerland becoming a Regional Expert Manager with responsibility for various gas and water distribution markets in South America, Europe, Middle East and the Indian sub-continent.

 

Since 2002 Mark has been based in Dubai, UAE.  His main duties involve travelling the region lecturing on specialised features of product design, testing and application.  An important aspect of this function is to advise on product choice, system layout and introduction of new techniques for his company’s very extensive range of distribution products - quite often at trench level.  He is additionally directly responsible for the certified theoretical and practical training of customers’ personnel at operational and supervisory levels for polyethylene products in the Gulf Region. He is also an active member of the newly formed Gulf Plastic Pipe Academy.
