TOPIC OUTLINE  

This impressive mosque is one of the largest in the world.  The main building area is 22,000 sq.m., and there is 17,000 sq.m. outer prayer area, allowing comfortable space for 41,000 worshippers. The main prayer hall is 5,800 sq.m. and can accommodate over 41 000 worshipers.  The building has 82 domes and 4 minarets.  Consultants now involved with the project include:
Hill International - PMC.,  Halcrow - Main Consultant,  Parsons Intl - External Works,  Hyder Consulting - E&M,  Cansult - Roads and Parking.
 Contractors now include: ACC / 6-Construct - main / management contractor, Emirates EMI. Al Hashem, Ghantoot, Fintino etc - Sub-Contractors.
Originally the Main Contractor was Impregilio with 33 sub-contractors including Emirates EMI, Al Habtour, Spatiem etc.
 The construction involved placing 120,000 cu.m of concrete with 33,000 tons of steel along with 7,000 pipes of average depth of 30m. 

SPEAKER  PROFILE

The talk / presentation has been arranged and will be given by Engineer Jaber Mohammed Ibrahim. B Sc in Civil Engineering from university of Mosul, Iraq and M Sc in Environmental Engineering from University of Mosul, Iraq. Jaber worked in Mosul, Kirkuk and Bagdhad, Iraq, Sirte and Misrata, on the Great Man-Made River in Libya and, since 1998 in UAE for contractors Pact and Bin Harmel and Project Management Consultants, Hill International. Presently he is with PMC [Hill] for construction of Sheikh Zayed, bin Sultan Al Nahyan Mosque [Grand Mosque] in Abu Dhabi.

PCE UAE PRP meetings are programmed for the last Tuesday of each month and are confirmed by Members attending the previous month’s meeting when a TOPIC is agreed.  While such meetings are primarily for Younger Members aiming for EC Registration as CEng, IEng, EngT via a PEI Chartered, Incorporated or Technician Professional Review (CPR, IPR, TPR) more senior, Chartered Members are invited to attend and volunteer to act as Mentors, Sponsors and Interviewers and so meet CPD liabilities..
