However, with growing interest in environmental protection and overall lifetime costing it is imperative that we consider a key part of the cycle ie Operational Maintenance and Facilities Management. While there have been significant efficiency monitoring benefits introduced in recent years, there is increasing scope for further improvements including the development of Carbon neutral buildings and better management of resources including computer based efficiency monitoring on a wide range of project types. The speaker will draw on his experience in the industry and supplement that with an indication of developments either warranted or likely to be introduced in coming yearsSPEAKER PROFILEDavid Graham is a Manager and Professional Chartered Engineer registered with the Engineering Council as CEng via Membership of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE). He has over 24 years experience in the construction and maintenance of the built and installed environment for the Defence, Power Generation, Oil & Petrochemical and Healthcare industries. His appointments have ranged from General Management, Project Management, Contract Management and Business Development to Design, Consultancy and Maintenance Management.David is a Graduate of Paisley University, UK and is presently Operations Manager-Facilities Management responsible for establishing the FM Division in the UAE for Crownhouse Engineering a subsidiary of Laing O’Rourke Contractors Starting his career with Babcock Power on Conventional and nuclear power projects he spent seven years with the UK Property Services Agency prior to joining the Serco Group, undertaking an assignment with The Defence Housing Executive and Continuing with Serco for six years in posts including Estates Manager for Hospital complexes in UK and Serco Gulf Operations Manager, UAE with 530 staff .SITE VISITSEach month we aim to have a works/site visit related to the main Topic. This month we have the opportunity thanks to Laing O’Rourk to visit workshops in Al Qos, Dubai being set up for production of modular facilities (eg complete bathrooms) as well as a visit to Yas Island, Abu Dhabi to view the major Workers Camp to house 10000. He will confirm details. .PROFESSIONAL REVIEW PREPARATION (PRP)PCE UAE PRP meetings are programmed for the last Tuesday of each month and are confirmed by Members attending the previous month’s meeting when a TOPIC is agreed. Meetings are mainly for Younger Members aiming for EC Registration as CEng, IEng, EngT via a PEI.
