of this event. In anticipation we
thank the speakers and also Hayder
Ibrahim BSc, CEng, MIStructE, General Manager, Corus Middle East who stood
in at short notice on Tuesday 2008 02 12 and spoke on “COMPOSITE METAL DECKING
FOR STRUCTURAL STEEL & BI-STEEL
TOPIC OUTLINE
Not many of our PCE UAE members are aware of the work
of the Institute of Healthcare Engineering and Estate Management (IHEEM
founded 1943), one of the 35 EC licensed PEI whose members are welcomed
by PCE UAE, far less the ramifications of the Abu Dhabi Corniche Maternity
Hospital.
PCE UAE arranged an interesting and well attended briefing
and visit to this facility a number of years ago.. Significant developments have taken place since
then, not least demolition of the former facility and planning and architectural
design for new developments. as well as the implications of re-locating standby
electrical power generation plant while ensuring that the hospital continues
to operate.
Ron Rothwell, arranged the previous presentation and site visit.
He will be suitably supported by Brian MacFarlane who is well
experienced in the design of hospital facilities.
Also, the essential and critical topic of standards and calibration
of hospital equipment will be covered. The
need for these is reflected in recent press references elsewhere to deaths
resulting from medical and radiation dosages exceeding norms.
Ron Rothwell
IEng, FIHEEM, MSOE is Director of Works at the Corniche Hospital, Abu Dhabi.
He has wide experience in the function ,having recently seen the previous
facility demolished and the present one due for major development.
Further information on Ron’s qualifications and experience will be
available. Interestingly, David Graham BSc, CEng, MIMechE,
MIFM, the speaker for April, has related
experience..
Brian MacFarlane
DipArch, FIH, ARCUK, UAE Government
Health Facilities Specialist has been based in the UAE for a number of years,
employed with International Architects and Hospital Specialists on projects
including the Khalifa Medical City Hospital. He has recently been appointed as the Health Facilities Specialist
with the UAE Government.
VISIT
Arrangements for a visit,
related to the main topic for the month, are in hand. This enables members to attend an earlier session and consolidate
information obtained at evening presentations. Please register interest with
the PCE UAE HonSec who will confirm details including map location if confirmed
and required.
PROFESSIONAL
REVIEW PREPARATION (PRP)
PCE UAE
PRP meetings are programmed for the last Tuesday of each month and are confirmed
by Members attending the previous month’s meeting when a TOPIC is agreed.
While such meetings are primarily for Younger Members aiming for EC
Registration as CEng, IEng, EngT via a PEI Chartered, Incorporated or Technician
Professional Review (CPR, IPR, TPR) more senior, Chartered Members are invited
to attend and volunteer to act as Mentors, Sponsors and Interviewers ans so
meet CPD liabilities. Meetings have been requested and held at Ghantout
each month of 2008 so far. With members from Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah attending.
While nearly 30 sat for CPR in 2007 regrettably some few did not pass.
We encourage them to come along and give / gain experience.
